New episode by E-Asia

The première issue tells about annual event “Anime nights” which took part in Kaunas, informs about latest animes and presents most recent events from East Asia region. The presenters professionally and skilfully did their job leaving a good impression about the fulfilment of the idea. Click here .  to watch the whole episode. 10358117_782537025099521_508149428_n May 16-18 of 2014 a group of 40 students gathered togehter to spend their weekend in a more unique and special way. 1st and 2nd year students of RASK and exchange students from South Korea, Japan and China organised and participated in
the first RASK Spring Forum. During the 3 days of activities there was a section of team building, then meeting with respectable guests and ambassadors, such as His Excellency the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China Zengwen Liu with his wife, Confucius Institute at Vilnius university director Donghui Zhang, Centre’s for Asian Studies at VMU staff, chinese and korean language teachers from VMU, etc.
All the participants had an opportunity to take part in discussions and learn more about China-Lithuania relations, visions of the future, Asian Studies program’s development and so on.
Daiva Repečkaitė, responsible for Korean and Indonesian projects, taught the students how to write CV and motivational letters as well as what mistakes should be avoided while writing such documents.
Saturday evening Ignas Sakalauskas shared his stories about his experiences travelling around the world. Also, all the representatives of each country made presentations about their respectful country.
First RASK Forum was a very succesful event and we are hoping that it will become a beautiful tradition every year.

letterThis May, Korean language lecturer Dr. Hyun Jeong Im donated a very colourful and useful batch of books to the Centre for Asian Studies. It contains a big variety of Korean language learning material as well as a big selection of Korean fiction and travel literature. This wonderful present will significally expand the Korean literature section of Chiune Sugihara’s reading room. The books will be available in the near future for all the readers.

DSC_3276 On the 9th of May, Centre for Asian Studies organized their annual event – East Asia Day. The purpose of this event was to gather students, lecturers and professors, social partners and alumni of VMU.

Political and public sector’s delegates as well as cultural organisations representatives gave presentations on their activities. Development of the relations between Lithuania and Asian countries was introduced by japanese ambassador Kazuko Shiraishi, Indonesian ambassador prof. Bomer Pasaribu, ITB rector Prof. Dr. Akhmaloka, representative of Confucius Institute Bo Shuyan and the leader of Buddhist community in Lithuania “Kwam Um Dzen” Alvydas Turskis. Also, Andrius Pukis and Adomas Lapinskas who won Darma Siswa scholarship in the past shared their experiences in Indonesia, Agnė Zabulionytė introduced her impressions about China and South Korea, countries that she visited as an exchange student.

IndonezijaVMU is successfully expanding its network of partners in Asia – most of which are partnerships of the Centre for Asian Studies. On May 9, after the East Asia Day event, VMU received a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Denmark, along with the Rector and his delegation from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Indonesia. This is an important development for the Centre in its aims to introduce Southeast Asian studies in the future, but first and foremost the agreement should attract the interest of natural sciences majors at VMU. They will be the first to benefit from new opportunities for cooperation and exchange.

According to H.E. Ambassador of Indonesia to Denmark and Lithuania Prof. Dr. Bomer Pasaribu, speaking at the Asia Day event, education exchange is a tool opportunity for Indonesia, constitutionally committed to spending at least 20% of its public budget on education, to implement its motto – “a million friends and zero enemies”.
