About the Ensemble

The women’s Korean Chamber Music Ensemble ‘DASRUM’ was established 1990 by 8 female players who tried to open a new future of Korean classical music.

It has been playing its role actively as an orchestra performing over 400 times until now with creative music presentation of Korean classical music for expanding its area into new generation and showing a new aesthetics aiming at the ideal succession and modernization of Korean music. The best characteristic of ‘DASRUM’ music is sensitive and soft musical performance by women. It joins the original aesthetics of traditional music with the refined modern sense in a peaceful atmosphere. Furthermore, old and new members of ‘DASRUM’ are occupying the important positions in Korean music part as a composer or player in foremost chamber orchestra ‘DASRUM’ is carrying out its role of the motive power for Korean music development as well as a delivery room of leading artists. The overseas performance of DASRUM which started out in 2005 was exciting stages that embedded the beauty of Korean music in the hearts of the people worldwide. DASRUM consisted of female members only was not just drastic but to recover from the jet lag, DASRUM was heartily greeted as it, in Koreans held five consecutive performances in Colombia, the country of passion, and came across audiences shedding tears in the historic country of Peru. Whether it be in Singapore where there is heightened interest in Koreans due to the Korean wave, or Hungary where it is difficult to be applauded, Sarajevo of Bosnia with only 5 Korean residents, the United States’ New York, China, Japan or Mexico. DASRUM’s music was a culture and language spreading Korea’s tradition to the people of the world.
