Global Japan Office (GJO) in Vytautas Magnus University was established on March 13, 2017. It is coordinated by the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (TUFS) and became the first center of this kind in North East Europe and the forth in Europe.
GJO is based on the worldwide network of institutions that help to develop Japanese studies, coordinated by Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. In 2014, TUFS was recognized by Japanese Government as one of the Top Global universities in Japan, and since then the establishment of GJOs was started. In total, 12 Global Japan offices are established, and they are hosted by prestigious universities, such as SOAS, University of London, University of Salamanca, Cairo University, Shanghai International Studies University, Tamkang University, Hanguk University of Foreign Studies, etc.

Functions
Global Japan Office in Kaunas has the following functions:
1. A place where Japanese-language and Japanese studies classes and seminars are delivered by a specialised lecturer who will visit the Office from TUFS Japan;
2. A place where the Joint Education Program is coordinated by TUFS and VMU;
3. A place where the internships for TUFS undergraduate and postgraduate students with a focus on Japanese-language education are arranged;
4. A place where the volunteering activities by TUFS undergraduate and postgraduate students are arranged;
5. A place where the consulting services for Japanese students studying at external educational institutions are provided;
6. A place where we the consultations for local students interested in studying abroad in Japan are provided.
