DSC_3276On the 30th of April, Vytautas Magnus University Centre for Asian Studies invited everyone to its annual event, the East Asia Day. This year, the event took place at VMU Small Hall (Donelaičio st. 28).
During the East Asia Day, more than 100 students, alumni, teachers and social partners, colleagues from other universities gathered together to share their experiences regarding the practical side of the Asian studies.

This becomes more and more important every year, because the number of students is growing and applying the acquired knowledge in practice is crucial.
This year, the event was targeted at the business sector. Therefore, the guest presenters were Ms. Ingrida Braziūnienė (Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts), Ms. Asta Kavaliauskaitė (UAB „Kimono“). Also, Mr. William Alberque (Head of Arms Control and Coordination Section, NATO HQ) introduced the perspectives of the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative. After a coffee break, everyone was invited to listen to a presentation about the competences of the employees and the needs of employers by Dr Osvaldas Stripeikis (Head of VMU Centre for Business Practices). Also, our students Zita Mažeikaitė and Andrius Vilkas shared their experiences gained during the exchange programs in East Asia universities. Eventually, a short discussion with alumni of East Asian studies took place.
The East Asia Day 2015 was different because this time the event was finalized with a public lecture given by Dr. Namtip Akssornkool (Thailand). Dr. Akssornkool is an independant consultant in literacy, basic education and gender in development. She was formerly Chief of the Literacy and Non-formal Education Section and of the Basic Education Section at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
