DSC_8918On September 19th, the delegation of Japanese Youth Goodwill Mission in Lithuania met VMU Vice-Rector and discussed the issues on education. Participants were invited to attend presentations about the University and its internationality as well as the history and activity of the Centre for Asian studies. After the official part of the meeting Index delegation was invited to the Asian Books Space (ABS), which is located in VMU Vaclovas Biržiška Library, and to participate in the discussion on the needs and importance of Asian studies in Lithuania with the students of East Asian Cultures and Languages program.

The Department of Youth Affairs under the Ministry of Social Security and Labour from 10th to 25th of September 2016, in cooperation with the Government of Japan, implements and organizes the Japanese Youth Goodwill Mission in Lithuania, also known as the International Youth Exchange program for the development of young people. The program aims to encourage Japanese and foreign youth for mutual understanding, a better knowledge of Japanese participation in public life and broaden the understanding of international cooperation. This year, the Japanese delegation consists of representatives of the Government of Japan, and 14 young people, who visit Lithuania for more than two weeks. During the program there will be institutional visits and exchange in educational, environmental and cultural fields, intensive discussions with the Lithuanian youth, homestay in Lithuanian families.
