sinraVMU Centre for Asian Studies invites to a Japanese calligraphy workshop held by the professional master Tosen Iwasaki, invited by the Embassy of Japan in Lithuania.

The workshop will take place on May 22 (Friday) at 15:00 in Kaunas, M. Gimbutiene room (Donelaičio str. 52 – 211).

Ms. Tosen Iwasaki (岩崎冬僊), born in 1959, started practicing calligraphy from the age of four. Since then the traditional Japanese calligraphy was
her hobby and passion. She graduated from Sophia University, Literature Department, English literature program.

After Ms. Iwasaki worked for company distributing Western paintings, got married and raised her children, she finally got engaged into calligrapher‘s activities full-time. Studied calligraphy at calligraphy school Shohougakuin in Tokyo.

The artist has been selected for Sankei International Calligraphy Exhibition as well as for a great number of other shodō (calligraphy) exhibitions.

In 2011 arranged her 1st personal calligraphy exhibition „The Sense of Wonder I“ at Shinjuku Bricolage Gallery (Tokyo, Japan). In 2012 arranged her 2nd personal calligraphy exhibition „The Sense of Wonder II [π]” at Shinjuku Bricolage Gallery (Tokyo, Japan). In 2007, 2011 and 2012 Ms. Iwasaki was selected for Sankei International Calligraphy exhibition.

Now living in Tokyo, Shinjuku district, she works as calligraphy teacher at schools. She has been teaching calligraphy for 14 years.
