Confucius Institute at Vilnius University

Confucius Institute at Vilnius University is the first and biggest Chinese language and culture centre in Lithuania, established in November 26th, 2010 by Vilnius University together with Hanban (subdivision of Ministry of Education of PR of China). The institute organizes Chinese language and culture courses and various academic and cultural events.

By keeping its quite new traditions, every year Confucius Institute at Vilnius University organizes Chinese Culture Week, during which Chinese lecturers and masters are invited to present their field of studies and talents. VU Confucius Institute annually holds Chinese New Year celebration. In addition to these traditional events, public lectures, concerts, exhibitions are organized as well. The cooperation with high schools and cultural institutions is established not only in Vilnius, but also in other cities of Lithuania.

The institute is engaged not only into cultural, but also into educational activities. Those who attend Chinese language courses, have an opportunity go to summer camp in China, or to get Confucius Institute Scholarship for studies in China. In addition to these academic events, HSK – Chinese Proficiency Test, is organized. YUKARI

Japanese agency “Yukari” is a project, which was initiated in order to promote relations between Japan and Lithuania in cultural and business spheres. These relations should enrich cultural life in Lithuania. Knowledge in Japanese traditions can be crucial in order to make lucrative contacts with Japanese businesmen. Nevertheless, in Lithuania there is still a lack of information about Japanese style business, its culture and possibilities to find business partners in Japan. Its market is open for the good quality items as well as for the intellectual products from European countries. WUDANG TAO

Wudang Tao is a studio of Eastern Asia culture. Its peculiarity is that Wudang encompasses a wide variety of Eastern attributes – meditation, perception of health and arts and so on. Aidas Žilinskas, the owner of the studio, practises wudang kungfu and taichi himself, so all visitors of Wudang studio know that the atmosphere here is full of Eastern Asia spirit. Newly restored loft is a great example of minimalism and asceticism. KYUMEIKAN

For more than 5 years Kyumeikan Kendo school continues the traditions of teaching kendo, Japanese wooden sword martial arts. In this school children can be admitted from 3 years old and they are taught to concentrate their energy. Teenagers use kendo to discover themselves and fight their fears. Adults practise kendo as type of meditation, while elder people during kendo acquire energy. So kendo is not just a simple game with a ball like basketball – it is a self-recognision through the practice of using a sword. www.kendo.lt

KELIONĖS IR PRAMOGOS

,,Kelionės ir pramogos” – the only journal in Lithuania, dedicated to travelling. This exceptional journal is being issued since 1997. BONSAI STUDIJA “SENSEI”

Bonsai studio “Sensei” is established in Alytus. It is a unique case in Lithuania, because the founder of the studio is self-educated bonsai master, Kęstutis Ptakauskas. He has not only established the studio, but also started a Japanese style garden in his own homestead. This garden has become a point of interest in Lithuania and beyond its borders.
