art This Friday HASHI will present two traditional Japanese arts – calligraphy and ink wash painting. Japanese calligraphy (shodō) is a form of calligraphy, or artistic writing. After the invention of Hiragana and Katakana, the Japanese unique syllabaries, the distinctive Japanese writing system developed and calligraphers produced styles intrinsic to Japan. Ink wash painting (sumi-e), also known as literati painting, is an East Asian type of brush painting that uses black ink.

These two Japanese forms of art will be presented by Virginija Jokubkaitė, a graphic designer and HASHI club member, who has learnt much about it from the artist Dalia Dokšaitė.

After the presentation there will be a workshop where you can try to draw a bamboo, flower or write a Japanese kanji. After the hard work, as always, tea and snacks will be waiting for you.

Time: March 28h (Friday), 6 pm
Place: Sugihara House, Vaizganto g.
