We would like to kindly invite you to the ceremony of Japanese – Lithuanian / Lithuanian – Japanese dictionary release. The event will be held on February 25th, 11am during Vilnius book fair in 3.2 hall (Laisvės pr. 5, Vilnius 04215, Lithuania).
We would like to congratulate our new administrator Lina Petrauskaitė, who started working in CAS on February 1st. She will take all responsibilities from previous administrator Kristina Gedminaitė.
We wish all the best for our former employees Kristina Gedminaitė, Daiva Repečkaitė and Kristina Barancovaitė-Skindaravičienė, who have been working with us for long years.
Moreover, we would like to congratulate new lecturers who will be taking classes related to East Asia – Dr. Giedrius Janauskas, Dr. Rasa Pranskevičiūtė, Alex Fratila, Dr. Linas Didvalis and Dr. J.D. Minninger.
The first electronic Japanese-Lithuanian dictionary, compiled by Aurelijus Zykas, will be launched on the 25th of February. This comprehensive dictionary contains about 70.000 words and expressions from various fields (art, culture, natural and political sciences, and more) with grammatical explanations and more than 500 illustrations. This dictionary should provide a substantial support for all the Lithuanian speaking Japanese learners.

A book donation from Prof Kumiko Yamada at Rikkyo University (Tokyo, Japan) is now already available publicly at Ch. Sugihara Reading Room at VMU Centre for Asian Studies. 110 books (33 of them in English) from her personal collection. This donation consists of various publications on literature, art, history, religion and other topics. Centre for Asian Studies is grateful for Japanese Embassy in the Republic of Lithuania for all the help during the book acquiring process.
Ch. Sugihara Reading room is an integral part of Centre for Asian Studies, responsible for collecting material related to the scientific and research activities of CAS. The funds of the Reading room are constantly growing, and donations from individual donors consist a large part of it.
A personal collection of books by Dr. Agnė Budriūnaitė was recently added to the funds of Ch. Sugihara Reading Room. All the visitors are welcome to use a wide variety of books on Philosophy, Religion, Culture. Prof Budriūnaitė was a fellow researcher in VMU Centre for Asian Studies. Her primary field of interest was Taoism therefore a substantial part of the collection is dedicated to this particular sphere. (more…)
On December 08, the agreement was signed between Vytautas Magnus University and Showa Women’s University (SWU) in Japan . This is the thirteenth partner university of VMU in Japan.
Japan Women’s School of Higher Education (日本女子高等学院, Nihon Joshi Kōtō Gakuin), the predecessor of this university, was established by poet Enkichi Hitomi (pseudonym: Tōmei Hitomi), who gathered together his intelligentsia friends that sympathized with the minds of those fashionable idols at the time, notably Leo Tolstoy, Rabindranath Tagore and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
2015 March 31st , VMU Rector Prof. Zigmas Lydeka paid a visit to SWU and met with rector Prof. Mariko Bando. During the visit, the opportunity to conclude an agreement and expand student exchange network was discussed. We are sharing the invitation to submit abstracts for the 4th annual Student academic Conference, focusing on Asia. The conference will be held on April 24, 11:00-14:00, V. Putvinskio 23-310 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
This event, which has become an integral part of VMU Asian Week, is organized by VMU Regional Studies Asian specialization students and VMU Center for Asian Studies together with the Department of Cultural Studies.
