On April 20-24, head of the Centre for Asian Studies, Dr. Aurelijus Zykas visited the University of Latvia by Erasmus+ exchange program and taught lessons for the students. This University placed in Riga is one of the Erasmus+ partners in the field of Asian studies.
During his lectures “Postwar Development of Japan’s Society and Politics”, A. Zykas introduced the main trends of how Japan developed after the Second World War, emphasizing the key shifting points in its history, such as San Francisco Treaty, Nixon shock, Bubble burst, etc. He covered the topics of the Reverse course, “Economic miracle”, 55-system, “Lost decade” and “party shift” among others.
During his lectures “Japan’s Global Soft Power and Public Diplomacy”, A. Zykas presented how Japan is producing its soft power, what are the main issues of its international image, and what are the actors behind, promoting Japanese values and culture worldwide.










On the 30th of April, Vytautas Magnus University Centre for Asian Studies invited everyone to its annual event, the East Asia Day. This year, the event took place at VMU Small Hall (Donelaičio st. 28).
Centre for Asian Studies and the Department of Culture Studies and Ethnology invites to a public lecture about Korean shamanism bydr. Jinseok Seo (University of Latvia).
The Centre for Asian Studies invites scholars of area studies, international relations, international economics and other subjects to submit papers to an international conference Shifting inter-regional balance: EU-East Asia economic cooperation, to be held October 21-22 in Kaunas. The conference focuses on, but is not limited to, the role of small countries amidst the shifting trade and economic cooperation relations between Europe and Asia.
The 3rd of April marked the end of VMU rector’s Prof. Zigmas Lydeka visit in East Asia. Rector’s purpose was to visit universities in Taiwan and Japan.
We would like to invite proposals for the upcoming issue of a semi-annual open access blind peer review journal ‘International Journal of Area Studies‘ (IJAS) to be published in March, 2016. This issue will be dedicated to Korea and will be edited jointly with Busan University (South Korea).
After 2 years master’s degree program 
In 2014 March 7 VMU signed a collaboration memorandum with Bunkyo Gakuin university in Japan. The students from Japan immediately started learning about Baltic region and by the end of December a number of 17 students and 6 teachers were selected to form a delegation to visit Lithuania.
