On 1 March, VMU will open its new division, Taiwan Centre – the first of its kind in the entire Eastern Europe. The occasion will be marked with a festive opening ceremony and the international scientific conference Chinese / Taiwanese Studies in Baltic States, which will begin at 9.20 a.m. that day in the VMU Small Hall (S. Daukanto g. 28).
Guests of the event include Representative of Taipei Mission in Riga ambassador Gary K. Y. Ko with delegation, President of National Taiwan University Lee Si-Chen, Dean of the College of Social Sciences in the National Cheng-Chi University Yih-chyi Chuang and researchers from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and the USA. On February 26 (Tuesday) at 16:00 you are invited to the presentation of the book “Užupio respublika” and its translation, which will be held in VMU History Hall (K. Donelaicio str. 58). During the presentation you will meet the author of the book, Korean writer Hailji (the original name Rim Jong Joo), translator from Korean Dr. Martynas Šiaučiūnas- Kačinskas, writer Kornelijus Platelis and researcher of VMU Centre for Asian Studies Seo Jinseok.
Laima Jukneviciute, Master’s degree student from Vytautas Magnus University who finished East Asia Region Studies at the VMU Faculty of Political Science and Diplomacy in Spring, has been accepted to full-time doctoral studies at the Academy of Korean Studies in South Korea and has won the PhD scholarship from the Goverment of ROK.
Centre for Asian Studies invites to the public lecture “Principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine” by the specialist of traditional Chinese medicine Liu Jingfeng. The lecture will be held with the support of Confucius Institute.
On November 3, 2012, the Government of Japan announced that Mr. Arvydas Ališauskas, ex-head of the Japanese Studies Centre, was conferred with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette for his contribution to promoting Japanese culture and advancing Japanese language studies in Lithuania.
On October 22, a Vice-President prof. Ha Chang-Sik of Pusan National University visited VMU with his delegation. On this occation, the Memorandum of Understanding was signed between both Universities, with aim to smoothen students’ and scholars’ exchange.
