The open meeting of the project “Representation of Japanese contemporary popular culture in Europe” will take place on October 26 at the Small Hall of VMU (Daukanto str. 28, Kaunas). During the meeting seven scholars from Lithuania, Japan, France, Israel and Latvia will discuss about Japan as one of the generators of global popular culture in Europe.
Everyone interested in these issues is invited to listen to the presentations and to take part in discussions. The aim of the meeting is to present the results of individual research, to discuss the further tendencies for the joint research and to prepare for the publication to be released next year. On October 4, VMU signed the exchange agreement and Memorandum of Understanding with Meiji University in Japan. One year ago both institutions started discussions about possibilities of academic and student exchange, financial support and scholarships, collaboration in joint research and other projects, and already had some successful exchange projects.

Everyone interested in Japanese language is invited to the fourth Japanese language speech contest, which is going to take place in Kaunas, on October 25.
Those who wish to participate at the contest are requested to prepare a brief speech in Japanese language. All speeches will be evaluated by the jury. The jury members include representatives from the Embassy of Japan to Lithuania, University of Osaka, Vytautas Magnus University, Vilnius University and Klaipeda University. The winners of the contest will be awarded with valuable prizes. The special prize is a Winner Cup presented by the Embassy of Japan. (more…)
Recently, the book, “Yureop-soseo Balteu samguk (Baltic states in Europe)”, written by Jinseok Seo, research fellow of the Centre for Asian Studies, was published by Seoul publisher Myungji.
In his book, author bases on his personal experience obtained during his life in Estonia and Lithuania. He presents the overwiew of the Baltic states, including the social, political, economic issues, directing his book towards wider Korean public. This is one of the rare books on the Baltic States, written in Korean.
12 students of Showa Joshi University from Japan are visiting VMU Centre for Asian Studies on September 17.
All VMU students are invited to join and to have nice time with our guests. Meeting starts at 9:00.
All international students are kindly invited to join the selective interdisciplinary course on the development of Korean society and culture (taught in English). It is a good opportunity to have a closer look to the country of the Morning Calm.

We are sharing the invitation to submit abstracts for the 4th annual Student academic Conference, focusing on Asia. The conference will be held on April 24, 11:00-14:00, V. Putvinskio 23-310 in Kaunas, Lithuania.
This event, which has become an integral part of VMU Asian Week, is organized by VMU Regional Studies Asian specialization students and VMU Center for Asian Studies together with the Department of Cultural Studies.
